This popular 3-day class is taught by American Bladesmith Society certified Mastersmith instructor James Crowell. It is held in the artist’s own private workspace near Timbo, AR located about 12 miles west of Mountain View’s town square in rural Stone County.
This class will address how to forge a blade as opposed to grinding one from bar stock. We will be using a gas fired forge and be forging hunting knife type blades. This class is designed to teach and familiarize the student with the types of steels that are used for forging blades, the proper heat/temperature, how to rough grind and heat treat. If there is time we can finish grind the blades and possibly put handles on. The shop has all the tools and equipment needed to complete the task. Design, materials, tools, and equipment will be discussed.

Dates: November 2nd
In this one day beginner fused glass course, students will learn how fused glass differs from other art glass. During this course, students will create one fused glass piece of decor from a choice of several different available pieces provided by the instructor, glass artist Barbara Cornett. Students will learn how to cut out glass pieces and assemble them to obtain different effects in the finished glass. Instruction will include how to use a glass kiln. An assortment of glass will be available for students to use, all needed tools will also be provided. The items will be fired for students and available for pick up two days after the course. Out of town students may arrange to have their pieces shipped to their home address. This one day class is sure to bring out your creative side — even if you don’t think you have one!

Dates: November 9th & 10th
In this 2 day beginner’s clay workshop, instructor Dana Finimore will guide students through the basics of wheel-throwing and hand-building techniques to provide students with a comprehensive introduction to working with clay. Students will explore clay as a creative tool while making a variety of functional pieces (cup/mug, bowl, plate) during this course.

In this 1 day beginner’s woodcarving workshop, students will learn to carve a Santa ornament from basswood cut on a diagonal, using a knife/carving tools. Learn about grain directions, carving safety, and making different types of cuts.

Dates: Running for six weeks, on Saturdays, Starting October 19th
This beginning weaving course is desgined for both the student who is a complete beginner and for those weavers who wish to refresh their warping and weaving skills. We will start with the basics of learning the parts of the loom, preparing the warp, dressing the lom, and operating the floor loom to produce a woven sampler. Participants will learn the “how-to’s” of planning a project, reading a draft, choosing the best materials for the project and how to finish an item.
This class will meet once a week and students will have access to the weaving studio between classes as well. Projects will include table runners, place-mats, scarves, or rag rugs. Students will have the opportunity to focus on projects of their choosing.
No prior skills are required, but some physical flexibility is needed to work with the 4-harness looms. Please inquire with us on our Contact Page if you have any questions.
