6 Weeks of Weaving – Introduction to the 4-Harness Loom
This beginning weaving course is designed for both the student who is a complete beginner and for those weavers who wish to refresh their warping and weaving skills. We will start with the basics of learning the parts of the loom, preparing the warp, dressing the loom, and operating the floor loom to produce a woven sampler. Participants will learn the “how-to’s” of planning a project, reading a draft, choosing the best materials for the project and how to finish an item. Class will meet once a week, and students will have access to the weaving studio between classes as well. Projects will include table runners, place-mats, scarves, or rag rugs. Students will have the opportunity to focus on projects of their choosing. Materials and resources will be provided, but if any students have their own materials they wish to work with please bring them. No prior skills are required, but some physical flexibility is needed.

Anne is a New Englander by birth and a Southerner by choice, living in Florida before moving to the Ozarks. She holds a B.A., M.Ed. & Ed. S. In 2001, she took a five year sabbatical and sailed with her husband throughout the Eastern Caribbean. Returning in 2006, she taught for another four years, retiring in 2010 to the Ozarks ending a 38-year career in the elementary classroom and administration. Anne learned to weave in the early 70’s at the Shelburne Craft School in Shelburne, VT and worked with a local weaver until moving to Florida in the early 80’s. The colors, designs and textures in her weaving are derived from the colors found in her photography. In weaving, she tries to use natural fibers…cotton, linen, wool…. in all colors and textures. However, she does use some man-made fibers in her scarves and placemats because of ease in laundering. She has given private weaving lessons and presented weaving workshop and is also a photographer, her photos having won awards at area art shows. She is a member of The Palette Art League, Ozarks’ Regional Arts Council, and the Area Art Club. Her photographs have been on display at the Blackbird Café at the Baxter County Library, Veda Sheid Center at Arkansas State University in Mountain Home and the Corner Joint Fine Arts Gallery in Mountain Home. She participated in The Art Odyssey Studio Tour in 2011 and 2012. She is a member of the North Central Chapter of the Arkansas Master Naturalist Organization.
