2018 Course Information: Knife Making with Jim Crowell
Knife Making with Jim Crowell
This popular 3-day class is held in the artist’s own private workspace near Timbo, AR located about 15 miles west of Mountain View’s town square in rural Stone County. Here students will be able to observe and participate in a working, professional knife-making studio. The class covers how to make a simple stock removal knife by cutting out a full tang blade, rough grinding, basic heat treating and basic handle construction. Students will be provided all the necessary materials and will leave the class with a simple, serviceable knife of their own manufacture. Design, materials, tools and equipment will be discussed. This workshop is open to all levels.
Students are encouraged to bring or wear leather shoes, leather palm work gloves, a leather apron, safety glasses and dust mask/respirator. All but the shoes can be provided and shared, if preferred.
