2018 Course Information: The Art of Cyanotype – Sun Printing on Paper and Fabric with Linda Rawlings
The Art of Cyanotype – Sun Printing on Paper and Fabric with Linda Rawlings
Learn the art of cyanotype printing to capture patterns from nature or other objects through this updated 19th century process. This hands-on workshop will teach one of the earliest – and originally camera-less – forms of photography. You will learn the best methods for creating original designs on fabric on paper from local expert fiber artist, Linda Rawlings. You will leave with a silk cyanotype scarf and enthusiasm for this amazing art form!
Bring dried and pressed flowers, leaves, feathers, digital negatives or other translucent or curiously shaped objects with which to create your designs. We’ll look at the latest in solar printing in various colors.
The art fee covers the cost of 1 silk scarf, paper, and cyanotype solutions. Students are welcome to bring t-shirts or a tote bag for additional printing surfaces. You can create personalized clothing, home decor items such as placements, table cloths, napkins, and pillows with this process. Quilters, painters, photographers, and anyone who enjoys experimenting will love creating these rich blue images that are artful unto themselves, or can be further worked for that singular touch.
