This beginning weaving course is designed for both the student who is a complete beginner and for those weavers who wish to refresh their warping and weaving skills. We will start with the basics of learning the parts of the loom, preparing the warp, dressing the loom, and operating the floor loom to produce a woven sampler. Learn the “how-to’s” of planning a project, reading a draft, choosing the best materials for the project and how to finish an item.
Class will meet once a week (Saturdays, 9-3), and you will have access to the weaving studio between classes as well. After the sampler is completed, student projects may include, but are not limited to, table runners, place-mats, scarves, or rag rugs. You’ll have the opportunity to focus on projects of your choosing. Materials and resources will be provided, but if you have your own materials you wish to work with, you are welcome to bring them.
No prior skills are required, but some physical flexibility is needed. Due to the present COVID-19 pandemic, students should be aware that the weaving loft does lend itself to social distancing. Masks will be required if conditions do not change by the start of class.
Tuition: $350
Materials fee: $60 (due to instructor at beginning of class)
