James Crowell's Studio
Instructor: James Crowell
This popular 3-day class is taught by American Bladesmith Society certified Mastersmith instructor James Crowell. It is held in the artist’s own private workspace near Timbo, AR located about 12 miles west of Mountain View’s town square in rural Stone County.
This class will address how to forge a blade as opposed to grinding one from bar stock. We will be using a gas fired forge and be forging hunting knife type blades. This class is designed to teach and familiarize the student with the types of steels that are used for forging blades, the proper heat/temperature, how to rough grind and heat treat. If there is time we can finish grind the blades and possibly put handles on. The shop has all the tools and equipment needed to complete the task. Design, materials, tools, and equipment will be discussed.
Material fee: $50 payable to instructor on the first day of class
