This visual arts workshop for rural youth will center local young people’s experience of Covid. What has it been like for you? The workshop will be a combination of facilitated dialog and translation of participants’ experience into visual art, using one to inform the other. Individual experiences will influence everything from color palette to theme. Will it be resilience? Will it be solitude? What do those look like? These aspects will be derived from the conversation.
Our team isn’t married to any particular visual piece resulting from the discussions, but based on instructor Olivia Trimble’s experience as a barn quilt painter, we somewhat anticipate a painted quilt square. Quilts represent comfort, security, family, and home, but the conversation might lead to more direct voices or signs. We look forward to seeing the outcome and look forward even more to the process.
This workshop is free for local youth. It is limited to 12 participants.
