Instructor Biography
Barbara is a native of the Chicago area and now lives in Shirley, Arkansas.
While her first career was in law enforcement, she pursued a love of stained glass in her spare time. Following her desire to create beautiful works of art in glass, she studied the art of making stained glass and fused glass under the tutoring of several experienced and practiced instructors in the Chicago area. Her quest to learn new techniques in glass continues today and she regularly participates in glass workshops throughout the country.
For the past five years, glass work has become her full-time pursuit. She enjoys combining fused glass with stained glass to create colorful and textured works of art. By fusing glass in one of her studio kilns she creates a mix of glass colors and/or makes glass soft enough to be formed. Her stained glass is created by using the “Tiffany method” of foil wrapped copper pieces soldered together.
The appeal of working with glass for Barbara is the way a piece of stained glass can set the mood and inspiration of the whole area where it is displayed. The colors of the glass bring color into a space like nothing else can. Long a believer that stained glass is not just for churches, her work reflects the modern art form it can be. She strives to bring humor, inspire a memory or bring a bright scene into a workplace or home with her art.
Barbara participates in many art shows in our area as well as in Arizona. Her work is currently also on display at the North Central Art Exhibit in the Fairfield Bay Conference Center and available at her studio in Shirley.
