Jeannie was born in Jonesboro, AR, living her first 19 years on a rice and soybean farm, then obtaining a degree in Home Economics from the University of Arkansas in 1978. Her and her husband currently live on a cattle farm near Siloam Springs, AR and she has been employed by U of A for 20 years. From the time she took her first basket class in 2004, she was hooked. After taking more classes she began teaching the craft. While she teaches a monthly class for the Washington County EHC, Jeannie also taught a class in Copper Center, Alaska. Jeannie won ‘Grand Champion’ at the Washington County Fair, along with several blue ribbons, and ‘Best of Show’ at the State Fair in Little Rock. In addition to membership in Guilds in Oklahoma, Missouri, Indiana and Arkansas (now dissolved), she attends basket weaving conventions to learn new techniques, see new products and visit with friends new and old.
Jeannie says that teaching is great fun. She loves teaching beginners because they are so excited to really make a basket. We hope you will join one of Jeannie’s basket weaving classes to learn this craft and have fun doing it.
