Painting Abstractly
Instructor: Marcia Wallace
Dates: July 19th & 20th
This two-day workshop will present different approaches to working abstractly, from altered realism to total abstraction, whether the artist’s intent is to challenge the viewers’ assumptions or to move them emotionally. The expressive use of the art elements will be explored. Participants will use a variety of media to engage with several ideas, then move into acrylic paint to create a work according to each person’s preferred approach to abstraction. The materials fee covers materials for quick exercises, as well as small canvases, paints, and brushes. Students may choose to bring their own brushes, acrylic paints, and canvases.
Handweaving on a Cardboard Loom
Instructor: Anne Criss
Dates: July 20th
Have you ever looked at a really creative wall hanging and wondered, “How did they do that?” Well, the answer just might be on a piece of cardboard!
If you want to get creative without spending a lot of money or time procuring supplies, this class will teach you how to weave beautiful creations using just a piece of cardboard and yarn!
During this workshop, you’ll take a piece of heavy cardboard, which will be provided, yarn (you can bring your own if you have something special you’d like to work with), and create a wall hanging or placemat in a day. All you’ll need to bring is a pair of scissors. It is fun, can be three dimensional, it is super easy and very portable. Once you take it off the loom, you have a beautiful creation!
Threaded Pictures
Instructor: Dorothy Anderson
Dates: July 25th & 26th
In this two day threaded picture workshop, students will choose a photograph to bring to class and will learn how to turn it into a threaded work of art! Pictures of pets are a popular choice. Chosen photos will be printed onto computer printer fabric and threads will be added to create your design. The instructor will have an image of the buffalo river available as a template for students if desired. See pictured. Though this project requires patience, it can be very relaxing and students will end up with an incredible work of art.
