Beginner Stained Glass
Instructor: Barbara Cornett
Dates: August 16th & 17th
In this two day beginner stained glass course, students will create a stained glass window using one of four patterns that are provided by the instructor, glass artist Barbara Cornett. Students will learn how to cut out glass pieces for their window, how to use a glass grinder to finish the glass edges, as well as how to fit the pieces together. They will use copper foil to wrap each piece of glass they make and solder their pieces together to create a one of a kind work of art. Students will patina their window and finish it with a zinc frame. A selection of glass will be available to choose from. All tools will be provided. All that is needed for this two day class is your enthusiasm and creativity! For safety reasons, no tank tops or open toed shoes in the glass studio please.
Introduction to Basket Weaving
Instructor: Jeannie Hornsby
Dates: August 24th (Summer) & October 12th (Fall)
Learn to make a basket that is both beautiful and functional. This class will be making what is called a Small Market Basket. Deep enough to hold your pot of beans to and from that upcoming holiday potluck, light and fashionable enough to make those trips down to the market. This workshop is appropriate for people new to basket making as well as those who wish to learn this particular style.
Dry Needle Felted Critters: Baby Skunk
Instructor: Delisa Eads-Wagar
Dates: August 24th
This one day dry needle felting critters workshop will teach students how to make a baby skunk. These critters are so dang cute, super easy to make, and can be filled with creativity! This class will focus on the basics of dry needle felting. The class will provide a solid foundation for the more advanced critter classes and for students interested in furthering their dry needle felting skills.
Instruction will last for five hours, with a one hour break for lunch. Tool kits may be purchased for this class if you do not already have your own. Tool kits can also be used in future classes, or for any work that you might do at home!
Wire Wrapping III: Advanced Techniques
Instructor: Dora Gonzalez
Dates: August 31st
In this level III wire wrapping class students will learn advanced weaving and other techniques for their own wire wrapped jewelry creations! The instructor can provide crystal education for those interested in the metaphysical/healing aspects of working crystals into their designs. Suitable for ages 12 and up. For advanced-level students or those who have some knowledge/experience with wire wrapping.
Dry Needle Felted Critters: 2 1/2D Sleeping Fox
Instructor: Delisa Eads-Wagar
Dates: September 7th, 8th, 28th 29th
In this 4 day (2 weekends) dry needle felting critters workshop, students will learn how to make a 2D Sleeping Fox Painting. Prior Dry Needle Felting experience is helpful but not required.
Instruction will last for five hours each day, with a one hour break for lunch, totaling 20 full hours of instruction. Tool kits may be purchased for this class if you do not already have your own. Tool kits can also be used in future classes, or for any work that you might do at home!
Forging Damascus Knives
Instructor: Shawn Ellis
Dates: September 13th - 15th
In this 3 day course with Forged in Fire Champion, Shawn Ellis, students will learn to work with Damascus steel in constructing knives. Students will learn safety information, basic forging Damascus skills up to making mosaic Damascus, billet, and assembly.
Students will leave this workshop with a small billet of Damascus, enough to make a Damascus knife. If there is extra time, the instructor will assist students in forging a blade, but not finish it out. This class will offer students a wealth of knife knowledge, potentially shaving years off of their learning curve for those who want to continue working in this ancient craft.
Portraits in Watercolor
Instructor: Marlene Gremillion
Dates: September 18th - 19th
In this two day workshop, students will use a limited pallet of watercolor and their own photo to paint aportrait. Value, color and shape are stressed to show the depth and detail of the face being painted.
Glazing on color slowly to pull out the features of the portrait will be taught by demonstration. Students will work at an easel after the demonstration with the assistance of the instructor.
Introduction to Knifemaking
Instructor: James Crowell
Dates: September 20th - 22nd
This popular 3-day class is held in the artist’s own private workspace near Timbo, AR located about 15 miles west of Mountain View’s town square in rural Stone County.
Introduction to Knifemaking covers the basics of making a stock removal knife: Cutting out a full tang blade from bar stock, rough grinding, basic heat treating and basic handle construction. Each student will be provided with all the necessary materials to make one such knife. The shop has all the tools and equipment needed to complete the task. Design, materials, tools and equipment will be discussed.
