Final Fridays Songwriter's Circle
Instructor: Charley Sandage
Dates: September 27th
The ACS is now hosting a monthly “Final Fridays Songwriters Circle”. Our next class is upcoming on Friday, September 27, 2019 from 6pm-8pm. This monthly Final Friday event is free to all with a suggested per person donation of $5-10 to cover utilities and staffing costs. This event is suitable for anyone who 1) likes to listen to local singer/songwriters play and craft music 2) has an interest in learning or developing their original songwriting, lyrical and/or musical skills 3) is an experienced songwriter wanting creative feedback and interaction with others local songwriters.
Carving a Caricature Blue-Tick Hound
Instructor: Mike Pounders
Dates: September 28th & 29th
In this 2 day woodcarving workshop, students will learn to carve a caricature hound from a blank/cut out using a knife/carving tools. Learn about grain directions, carving safety, and making different types of cuts.It will also include painting and finishing techniques as time permits.
Saving Nature Now (for 3rd-5th graders)
Instructor: Anne Criss
Dates: September 28th, October 5th, October 12th
In this 3 week workshop (2 hours each day, 3 consecutive Saturdays) retired elementary school teacher and current professional artist Anne Criss will teach students (grades 3-5) to look for the art found in nature everyday, as well as learn how the natural environment is important, inspiring, and fragile.
Materials provided include the Saving Nature Now booklet which contains 9 activities, some of which will be done on site at the Arkansas Craft School, or off site at the local park down the street from the school, and others that can be done at home.
Wire Wrapping III: Advanced Techniques
Instructor: Dora Gonzalez
Date: September 28th
In this level III wire wrapping class students will learn advanced weaving and other techniques for their own wire wrapped jewelry creations! The instructor can provide crystal education for those interested in the metaphysical/healing aspects of working crystals into their designs. Suitable for ages 12 and up.
For advanced-level students or those who have some knowledge/experience with wire wrapping.
After-School Arts For Teens & Tweens - Wednesdays: Jewelry Making Series

Dates: Weekly on Wednesdays Running From October 2nd - November 6th
Join instructor Blair Tinkle for our new after school arts workshops for Middle School to High School aged youth on Wednesdays! Our first 6 week series: Jewelry Making will be offered on Wednesdays from October 2nd – November 6th from 3:30pm – 5:00pm. In this class, students will be introduced to a variety of jewelry making projects, including learning basic wire wrapping skills, how to create wooden bracelet cuffs, beaded bracelets and matching earrings, paper beads, and so much more!
Elementary After-School Arts - Thursdays: Fall Into Art Series

Dates: Weekly on Thursdays Running from October 3rd - November 14th (No class on Halloween)
Join instructor Blair Tinkle for our new after school arts workshops for Elementary aged youth on Thursdays! Our first 6 week series: Fall Into the Arts will be offered on Wednesdays from October 3rd – November 14th, 2019 from 3:30pm-5:00pm. Please note, there will be NO CLASS on Thursday October 31st (Halloween). In this Fall Into the Arts series, students will be introduced to a variety of Fall oriented art and craft projects designed to teach kids new skills and get them creatively engaged in the arts! Activities included: making paper fall trees, nature people, scarecrows, pumpkins, and more!
Class is suitable for students ages 7 – 11 (Grades 1-5); 6 and under with adult participation.
Introduction To Blacksmithing
Instructor: Pat Thompson
Dates: October 3rd, 4th & 5th
In this three day introductory course, students will learn the basics of beginning a blacksmithing practice in a low-pressure, exploratory environment at the artist’s studio. This course is perfect for those who are curious about blacksmithing and want to find out if this craft is the one for you!
Students will start with making home-made nails just like apprentices did in previous centuries. From there they will be moving on more sophisticated pieces, students can talk to the instructor about specific items that they want to make.
Students will be working with both propane and coal. All tools and materials will be included. Please remember to wear cotton based clothing as opposed to synthetics.
By the end of this course, students will have several creations to bring home. Suitable for students ages 16 and up.
Hypertufa and Concrete Cloth
Instructor: Arkansas Craft School & Local Master Gardener Associations
Date: October 5th
Spend a day at beautiful Tomahawk Creek Farms (off Hwy. 9 South in Mountain View) learning to make your own garden pots and art! In this day long workshop, students will learn how to work with hypertufa and concrete cloth. Hypertufa is an artificial stone material that is made of several different aggregates mixed with cement in order to create pots, planters, stepping stones, and more. Hypertufa is much lighter than cement but still sturdy enough for harsh weather conditions.
Minimum age of student: 16 unless with parent/guardian
All Basic Materials Provided: Peat-moss, Pearlite, Portland Cement, Plastic Sheeting & Bags, and Latex Gloves.
Torch Fired Enameling
Instructor: Dana Finimore
Dates: October 5th & 6th
In this 2 day workshop with metalsmith Dana Finimore, students will learn to create beautiful copper enameled jewelry utilizing the torch-firing method. Various methods will be explored, including sgraffito and stenciling. Students will come away from this weekend with several pieces of wearable jewelry and the beginnings of a new skill set in metalsmithing and enameling on copper.
Suitable for ages 16 and up.
Monthly Kids Crafts (1st Saturdays)

Every 1st Saturday of the month, join instructor Blair Tinkle for a two hour workshop exploring a different art and craft form. These classes are meant to be fun and project oriented, with students learning and completing a different arts/crafts project in each class.
October 5th class – Paper Mache Pumpkins

Introduction to Basket Weaving - Muffin Basket
Instructor: Jeannie Hornsby
Dates: October 12th
Learn to make a basket that is both beautiful and functional. This class will be making what is called a Muffin Basket. This workshop is appropriate for people new to basket making as well as those who wish to learn this particular style. For materials, there will be a selection of various colors.
Self-Discovery Collage & Journaling: A 4 Week Workshop For Girls
Instructor: Aly Dearborn
Dates: Weekly on Tuesdays. Starting October 15th, running through November 5th
In this 4 week visual art and journaling workshop for girls, Instructor & psychoterapist Aly Dearborn will introduce students to the practice of collage and journaling as a means of self discovery and creative self-expression. Each week, Aly will guide the girls through various mixed media journaling exercises and collage prompts designed to help each student learn more about herself, her unique creative expression, and the many ways that art journaling can be used as a fun and healthy way to cope with life’s stressors.
Suitable for girls aged 12-17. All materials will be provided, but please bring old magazines, books, or other desired items to share and include in your weekly projects.
Beginning Digital Photography
Instructor: Ed Alexander
Dates: October 19th & 20th
Learn to capture the best with your digital camera by improving your understanding of camera setting, subject selection, composition, use of light and color, camera maintenance, and image storage. Students get one-on-one attention. Instructor Ed Alexander is an accomplished outdoor photographer whose work is in both private and public collections across the US.
Six weeks of Weaving
Instructor: Anne Criss
Dates: Running for six weeks, on Saturdays, Starting October 19th
This beginning weaving course is desgined for both the student who is a complete beginner and for those weavers who wish to refresh their warping and weaving skills. We will start with the basics of learning the parts of the loom, preparing the warp, dressing the lom, and operating the floor loom to produce a woven sampler. Participants will learn the “how-to’s” of planning a project, reading a draft, choosing the best materials for the project and how to finish an item.
This class will meet once a week and students will have access to the weaving studio between classes as well. Projects will include table runners, place-mats, scarves, or rag rugs. Students will have the opportunity to focus on projects of their choosing.
No prior skills are required, but some physical flexibility is needed to work with the 4-harness looms. Please inquire with us on our Contact Page if you have any questions.
