December Monthly Kids Crafts - Basic Sewing: Christmas Stockings
Instructor: Blair Tinkle
Dates: December 7th
Every 1st Saturday of the month, join instructor Blair Tinkle for a two hour workshop exploring a different art and craft form. These classes are meant to be fun and project oriented, with students learning and completing a different arts/crafts project in each class.
December 7th class – Basic Sewing Skills: Christmas Stockings
Suitable for ages 7 and up (6 and under with parent only)
Self-Discovery With Collage & Journaling: FREE Workshops for Girls
Instructor: Aly Dearborn
Dates: December 10th and/or the 17th
In this visual art and journaling workshop for girls, Instructor and ACS program manager Aly Dearborn will introduce students to the practice of collage and journaling as a means of self discovery and creative self-expression. Aly will guide the girls through various mixed media journaling exercises and collage prompts designed to help each student learn more about herself, her unique creative expression, and the many ways that art journaling can be used as a fun and healthy way to cope with life’s stressors.
Suitable for girls aged 11 and up. All materials will be provided for a $5 supply fee, but please feel free to bring old magazines, books, or other desired items to share and include in your projects.
Portrait Drawing from Photographs
Instructor: Adrian Deckbar
Dates: December 11th - 13th
In this 3 day workshop with professional artist Adrian Deckbar, students will learn how to paint beautiful, realistic portraits using photographs as a basis for creating new works of art.
Students are welcome to work with their chosen medium – graphite, charcoal, pastel, acrylic, and/or watercolor. Open to the medium you are most familiar with – pencil if no art background, which is perfectly OK!
Suitable for ages 16 and up.
Beginner Stained Glass
Instructor: Barbara Cornett
Date: December 13th & 14th
In this two day beginner stained glass course, students will create a stained glass window using one of four patterns that are provided by the instructor, glass artist Barbara Cornett. Students will learn how to cut out glass pieces for their window, how to use a glass grinder to finish the glass edges, as well as how to fit the pieces together. They will use copper foil to wrap each piece of glass they make and solder their pieces together to create a one of a kind work of art.
Students will patina their window and finish it with a zinc frame. A selection of glass will be available to choose from. All tools will be provided and the only thing needed for this two day class is your enthusiasm and creativity! For safety reasons, no tank tops or open toed shoes in the glass studio please.
Wire Wrapping I & II
Instructor: Dora Gonzalez
Date: December 14th
In this class students will learn the basics of wire wrapping. This includes safety, various types of wire, the different tools, and a variety of knots.
Level I will have students constructing a wire wrapped bracelet and will be held from 10a-12p.
In level II, students will construct ear-cuffs and / or earrings and will be held the same day from 1p-3p.
Interested in learning more? Register for Level III, wire-wrapping advanced techniques – to be held on Saturday, January 11, 2020 from 1-3pm. In this advanced class, students will construct a wire-woven pendant.
