Slow Stitch Collage

Instructor: Antzee Magruder
Dates: July 12th

This workshop is a must for quilters and other people who wish to take that next step into creating highly original works in fabric, works that transcend traditional patterns.

Fiber Artist & Instructor Antzee Magruder begins with fabrics, then, through endless combinations of hand stitching, overlapping, collage with found objets, and even painted accents, she creates intricate balances between the old and new.

The final pieces may remain richly abstract or may contain narratives that slowly emerge as you examine the intricate textures and patterns. Here, the initial fabrics are the medium, or support, for the final works.

Students, the creators, then need to be fully engaged as they add to and interact with each stage of development.

Techniques, materials, possibilities, and individual coaching are all part of this workshop. Appropriate for all levels.

Painting Abstractly

Instructor: Marcia Wallace
Dates: July 19th & 20th

This two-day workshop will present different approaches to working abstractly, from altered realism to total abstraction, whether the artist’s intent is to challenge the viewers’ assumptions or to move them emotionally. The expressive use of the art elements will be explored. Participants will use a variety of media to engage with several ideas, then move into acrylic paint to create a work according to each person’s preferred approach to abstraction. The materials fee covers materials for quick exercises, as well as small canvases, paints, and brushes. Students may choose to bring their own brushes, acrylic paints, and canvases.
