Hot Glass Experience, Feb 6, 7, & 8
Date: February 6, 7, and 8
Time: Students will have a choice of 1 hour time blocks per session (multiple sessions may be booked)
Tuition and Materials: $125
Instructor: Ed Pennebaker
Students: Ages 14+ (Students under 18 must be accompanied by an adult)
Location: Red Fern Glass Studio 174 Lori Lane, Clinton, Arkansas
This Make Your Own Glass experience, open to ages 14 and up is an intensive, hands-on experience (Children under 18 should be accompanied by an adult). No experience is necessary as you will be guided every step of the way. Choose your colors, and sit at the bench while the glassmaker gathers molten glass. You’ll use a variety of tools to manipulate and shape the glass.
The options will be to make a blown ornament or a solid paperweight.
For the blown ornament the student will pick out their colors and help pick up color on the surface of the molten glass and melt into the glass. The student will then blow into the blowpipe while the glassblower manipulates the glass into a spherical shape. The sphere is broken off the blowpipe and a hook is added to the ornament from an additional gather of molten glass.
To make a solid glass paperweight, either heart shape or ball shape, the student will pick the colors that you want on the inside of the paperweight. Then the glassblower gathers glass and the colors are added to that gather and melted in by the student. The glass is shaped some before adding another gather of glass and the final shape is worked out, either a heart shape or spheres shape.
If you want to make more than one item, you can book more than one time slot.
Please arrive at least 10 minutes prior to your session to check in. Class will be held in the Red Fern Glass Studio at 174 Lori Lane in Clinton, Arkansas.
Pieces made must cool overnight and can be picked up the next day, or shipped within the US and Canada. Shipping within the U.S. is included in the student fee.
Book your experience online or call before your visit.
SAFETY
We start each session with a safety briefing. Then Ed Pennebaker gives a demonstration showing the method that each person will use to make the glass item with assistance from Ed or one of his assistants.
We adapt to each individual’s ability, giving you more or less assistance as required. This event is great fun to do on your own or together with a group of family and friends.
Participants must wear closed toe shoes and natural fibers
If making a blown item, mouth pieces are cleaned with alcohol between participants
Hand sanitizer is available for use before and after your session
Please refrain from alcoholic beverages before your workshop
Wear natural fiber clothing, cotton or wool. Synthetics are not recommended because of the heat
