Shawn Ellis Damascus Knives

Forging Damascus Knives

Instructor: Shawn Ellis
Dates: September 13th, 14th and 15th

In this 3 day course with Forged in Fire Champion, Shawn Ellis, students will learn to work with Damascus steel in constructing knives. Students will learn safety information, basic forging Damascus skills up to making mosaic Damascus, billet, and assembly.

Portraits in Watercolor

Instructor: Marlene Gremillion
Dates: September 13th, 14th and 15th

In this two day workshop, students will use a limited pallet of watercolor and their own photo to paint a portrait. Value, color and shape are stressed to show the depth and detail of the face being painted. Glazing on color slowly to pull out the features of the portrait will be taught by demonstration. Students will work at an easel after the demonstration with the assistance of the instructor.

Introduction to Knife Making

Instructor: James Crowell
Dates: September 20th, 21st & 22nd

This popular 3-day class is taught by American Bladesmith Society certified Mastersmith instructor James Crowell. It is held in the artist’s own private workspace near Timbo, AR located about 12 miles west of Mountain View’s town square in rural Stone County.

Introduction to Knife making covers the basics of making a stock removal knife: Cutting out a full tang blade from bar stock, rough grinding, basic heat treating and basic handle construction. Each student will be provided with all the necessary materials to make one such knife. The shop has all the tools and equipment needed to complete the task. Design, materials, tools and equipment will be discussed.Students should be able to complete one such knife during class.

Canes & Bowls in Polymer Clay

Making Canes & Bowls with Polymer Clay

Instructor: Marlene Gremillion
Dates: September 20th & 21st

In this 2-day, workshop students will learn how to prepare and form decorative
canes from polymer clay. Many methods and handy tips will be taught about this
amazing art medium. Students will make a wide variety of polymer clay canes
and sheets that will be put together to make a kaleidoscope design. These
kaleidoscopes and / or canes will be assembled and formed into trinket bowls and
cured in a toaster oven to complete.

Carving a Caricature Blue-Tick Hound

Instructor: Mike Pounders
Dates: September 28th & 29th

In this 2 day woodcarving workshop, students will learn to carve a caricature hound from a blank/cut out using a knife/carving tools. Learn about grain directions, carving safety, and making different types of cuts.It will also include painting and finishing techniques as time permits.
