Beginning Glass Beads, January 25
Date: January 25, 2025
Time: 10am - 4 pm
Tuition and Materials: $160
Instructor: River Lovenstein
Students: Ages 16+
Location: Main Campus- 101 N. Peabody
Join River for this introduction to the tools and types of glass used in glass bead making. You will be able to make basic beads including techniques to make stringers. Modern lampwork beads are made by using a gas torch to heat a rod of glass and spinning the resulting thread around a metal rod. When the base bead has been formed, other colors of glass can be added to the surface to create many designs. Lampwork is the term used for making beads and other shapes from melting and forming glass in a flame - hundreds of years ago, the glass used to be heated over a small oil burning lamp, hence the term 'Lampwork'.
You will be using a torch, so please wear old clothes you don’t mind getting a burn hole in or bring an apron. It can happen. You are allowed to bring drinks/lunch or leave for lunch. We have some great cafes on the square you can walk to.
