Capped Crystals
Date: July 11-12, 2025
Time: 9 am - 4 pm (hour for lunch)
Tuition and Materials: $285
Instructor: Brandy Boyd
Students: ages 16+
Location: 101 N Peabody Ave/ Main Campus
Are you a rock hound, or maybe just a collector of beautiful crystal points? Want to get them off the shelf and around your neck? This is the class that will show you how!
Whether it’s creating a cap for a fully polished point, a collar for a double terminated, tapered stone, or making a setting for a raw, straight-out-of-the-ground piece, you’re covered in this 2-day workshop.
Class will cover:
- Prepping crystals for wear (and what kind of crystals to avoid making into jewelry)
- Design considerations
- Mechanical construction
- Embellishments
- Setting the stone
Experience with metals, especially soldering silver, is helpful, but not required. We will cover how to create 3 different types of settings, but students may not fully finish 3 pendants in the 2 days (some filing, sanding, etc may need to be completed after class)
Crystals will be provided in the kit that are ideal for each setting, but students are welcome to bring some of their own pieces to use in class or discuss best ways to use in jewelry after class.
The techniques in this class can also be applied to items such as antler shed or carved/polished wood, so you’re not limited to just making things with pretty rocks!.
Chains, additional/different crystals, and embellishments will be available for purchase for those interested (CC accepted).
