Enameling on Fine Silver Metal Clay, August 29-30

$310.00
  • Enameling on Fine Silver Metal Clay

  • Date: August 29-30, 2025

  • Time: 9 am - 4 pm (hour for lunch)

  • Tuition and Materials: $310

  • Instructor: Brandy Boyd

  • Students: ages 16+

  • Location: 101 N Peabody/ Main Campus

Learn the ancient mystery of bonding metal and glass into a harmonious, colorful work of art. During this workshop, we will create 2 fine silver pendants (or earrings), learn how to prep them after firing for the best enameling results, and then use cloisonne and champleve enameling techniques to add amazing depth and color.

Experience with metal clays and/or enameling is not required for this class. We'll cover all the basics and you'll leave class with lots of inspiration and information to keep the creativity going! This class is for anyone wanting to learn to create their own precious metal elements, add color to their work, or explore enameling basics. You will leave class with finished pieces.

Day 1 will be spent creating the fine silver pieces and day 2 will be enameling and finishing them. Kiln and torch-firing enamels will be covered (the metal clay can be kiln-fired, but students will have the option to torch-fire their pieces)

The class kit includes 30 grams of fine silver metal clay, fine silver cloisonne wire, tools for enamel application, Klyr-fire, and an assortment of enamels compatible with fine silver.

Students are welcome to bring additional fine silver clay to make larger pieces or make more than 2 regular-sized pieces - some clays will need to be kiln fired prior to enameling for best results. Students may also bring their favorite texture sheets and shape templates for use with the metal clay, but there will be a large assortment available for use in class, and a discussion of which ones work best with these techniques and why.
