The Writers Workshop is for anyone interested in the process of creating fiction. Whether you are just getting started or you’ve been writing for a while, participants will have the opportunity to discover a personalized approach to all lengths of storytelling.
Among the topics covered in the class are the following:
Selecting a workable topic
Developing your style
The importance of research
Growing interesting characters
Creating robust dialogue
The workshop aims to benefit any aspiring writer in shaping their thoughts and ideas into polished short stories or novels. Whether you are writing as a hobby or striving for publication, the tips, insights and suggestions gleaned from this class will assist in achieving your goals.
Instructor TJ Hassell has written three literary fiction novels, each of which are set in the Ozark Mountains. Her second book of the series, “A Habit of Keeping Secrets,” won the 2024 Appy Inkwell Award for Best Fiction at the Appalachian Writers Conference in Berea, Kentucky.
She was an invited author panelist at Mary Hardin Baylor University’s Windover Writers Conference in February, 2025. Her short story, “The Seventy-Five Year Old Book Club,” has been selected for publication in the Windover Journal. Her third novel “A Fortunate Turn,” was published in early 2025.
